Hamilton headliner and maestro Lin-Manuel Miranda has tapped some of his super starry Hamilfans for his latest project: The Hamilton Mixtape. The Atlantic Records album, which is currently looking at a fall release, will feature Usher, Sia, Queen Latifah and more on variations of tunes from the hit musical.
The Hamilton Mixtape, a somewhat post factum concept album, will feature both covers and remixes. “Half the songs are cover versions of songs in the show, and the others are interpolations—we’ll take some of this, some of that, and make something new out of it,” producer Questlove told Vanity Fair.
Also on board are Chance the Rapper, Regina Spektor, Ben Folds and Busta Rhymes. If you search hard enough, you can find photos and love notes from almost all of their visits to the show.
As for Miranda, the Tony, Grammy and Emmy winner will stay on the other side of the recording booth for this one. “I’m not going to be on it,” he said, “because for me, the goal is to keep this inspired by the original.”
